Our Theatre Department was the first Hillsborough County School to ever be invited to perform in the American High School Theatre Festival at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Scotland.
In the summer of 2023, our school performed the musical NUNSENSE: THE MEGA MUSICAL and we were so excited to perform our show 4 times during the Fringe to sold out audiences! In addition to performing and having the choose from 1000s of Fringe shows to see, our students will also got the opportunity to tour London, see a show in the West End, visit castles and other attractions in Scotland. We even got the opportunity to go on a ghost tour in Edinburgh!
We are headed back to Edinburgh in the Summer of 2025 and students and their families are already signing up. If you are interested in joining us on this exciting trip, we will have a meeting about it in the fall, but if you want to get a head start on making payments for it, just email me at lisa.vorreiter@hcps.net to ask any questions you might have and get set up on the trip!
Meet the Director
Mrs. Lisa Vorreiter
Mrs. V has been teaching in Hillsborough County for 38 years. Many of her former students have gone on to professional careers as actors, technicians and designers and can be found working across the world on cruise ships, in theme parks, in film and television, in regional theatres and on Broadway.
In addition to teaching at Alonso High School, Mrs. Vorreiter is also on the Leadership Board for District 9 Thespians and is President of the Florida Association for Theatre Education.
Alonso Theatre brings in a variety of professional artists to assist with shows and provide supplemental training for our students. Designers, choreographers, musical directors, etc are brought in to help with our program. In addition, working artists also present workshops in various elements of theatre.
